We’re getting very excited about the start of the new nippers season, which starts on Saturday November 22nd. We have made some changes for this season so please make sure you are aware of the following even if you are a nippers veteran –
1. We will now finish all programs at the same time at 4.30pm.
To alleviate the potential stress of younger children finishing before their siblings and active parents being available, we are trialling a single combined finish time this season for all groups and programs (nippers and starfish).
This means that start times for our Under 6 and Under 7 age groups will now be 3:20pm. Please check-in with your age manager from 3:00pm, ready for your 10 minute warm-up starting at 3:20pm.
Start times from the Under 8 to Under 14 age groups is unchanged at 3:00pm, so check-in with your age manager from 2.45pm as usual.
Starfish start times will be confirmed to participants nearer the time but this is likely to be 3.30pm.
2. We’ll make a lot of noise during transition.
We’re planning to use our PA system to signal transition between our 20-minute events at 3:30pm, 3:50pm and 4:10pm, and at the end of all events at 4:30pm. This will ease congestion at event areas during transition. Your age manager will escort you between event areas at these times.
3. We will adhere to SLSA Sun Smart Guidelines.
We are all responsible for the safety and wellbeing of all nippers during the program, therefore all participants must arrive Sun Smart Ready. Please ensure that your nipper brings/wears the following when checking in -
- Broad Brim Hat
- Bathers & Towel
- Rashie & Hi-Vis Singlet, or our new combined Rash-Vest
- Long sleeved shirt (if you’re not wearing a long sleeve rashie)
- Water Bottle filled with water
- Sun block (applied 20 minutes prior)
- Googles for swimming (optional)
You will be able to purchase these items from our Gear Shop (except googles and towels) if you do not have them with you at Check-in.
4. Our Parent Support Roster will be published before each Saturday
For those parents not on “active” duty as an age manager, water safety official or other club official, we’ll publish a roster each week showing what support duties have been assigned to you assisting the Age Manager, Kiosk/BBQ and Gear Shop. If you are unable to attend on your allocated week, you’ll need to contact our Parent Support Officer to make alternative arrangements to fulfil your duty.
5. Remain on the Beach during nippers
A reminder that parents must remain on the beach, within earshot of either their Age Manager, or the Club PA System, at all times when their children are in the program. This is a mandatory club safety requirement – we must be able to reach you immediately if there is an incident involving your child.
